Overview

CEVA offers the smallest and lowest power Wi-Fi IP platform, called RivieraWaves Sense, encompassing 802.11n MAC and Modem cores and platform, which can be used in a variety of configurations including 11b only, 11b/g, 11b/g/n or dual band 11a/b/g/n. It is provided with LMAC (aka thinMAC, for use with linux/Android mac80211 UMAC) and LMAC+UMAC (aka FullMAC) software protocol stacks. The RivieraWaves Wi-Fi Sense platform can be used in a standalone single chip or integrated into a bigger System on Chip (SoC) such as application processor or micro-controller. The RivieraWaves Wi-Fi Sense platform is ideal for power sensitive IoT applications such as wearable, smartwatch, digital camera, smart home & industrial wireless sensors, entry market smart phones and tablets. CPU agnostic, the RivieraWaves Wi-Fi Sense software protocol stacks can be executed on any CPU controller such as ARM, Cortus or others. It is also possible to use the CEVA TeakLite 4, with the additional benefit of executing in parallel audio processing or other always on sensor hub. Silicon independent, the RivieraWaves Wi-Fi Sense platform support several radio IPs from various partners such as Catena and Maxscend. Other RF can be easily supported on customer demand.

  • 802.11a/b/g/n MAC
    • The RW-WLAN-11n MAC core implements the 802.11a/b/g/n standard with up to 72.5Mbps throughput (20MHz bandwidth) or 150Mbps throughput (20/40MHz bandwidth). It also supports the 802.11e standard (QoS) and the 802.11i standard (Security) extensions.
    • RivieraWaves profound expertise in wireless communications resulted in the highly optimized MAC core with special focus on low memory and MIPS requirements while maintaining a small gate count. The MAC core interfaces to the ARM standard AMBA bus.
  • 802.11a/b/g/n Modem
    • The licensable and silicon independent RW-WLAN-11n 802.11a/b/g/n Modem core can be combined with the RivieraWaves RW-WLAN-11n MAC IP to form high performance and cost effective 802.11a/b/g/n solution. The supported features are:
      • Modulation Coding Schemes (MCS) from 0 to 7
      • 20MHz or 20/40MHz bandwidths
      • Support of STBC
      • Full implementation of OFDM processing up to the interface of the radio:
        • Scrambling
        • FEC coding and Viterbi decoding
        • Interleaving
        • FFT
        • Timing, phase and frequency synchronization
        • Channel compensation
