Rambus to Pay $32.5M for Semtech?s IP Biz

Fabless chip vendor and technology licensor Rambus Inc. said Monday (June 6) it would acquire Semtech Corp.?s Snowbush serial interface intellectual property business for $32.5 million in cash, plus additional payments over the next several years.
Rambus (San Jose, Calif.) said the acquisition would strengthen its position and meet customer needs in the server, networking and data center markets. The deal includes IP cores, patents and other assets, Rambus said.
Semtech (Camarillo, Calif.) has been marketing its silicon-proven, high-speed serial interface IP under the brand name Snowbush. The group was formerly part of Gennum Corp., which Semtech acquired in 2012.
