IoT Design 2016: Smart buildings, privacy and trust

Making IoT work for us'was the title, and it seemed the audience appreciated the emphasis on practical engineering that was demonstrated across the range of talks.

Speakers included Matthew Evans (TechUK, pictured), Nick O'Leary (IBM), Ken Munro (Pen Test Partners), Fenella Frost (PhotonStar), Hugo Fiennes (Electric IMP), Tim Devine (PA Consulting Group) and John Fogelin (EVRYTHNG).

Privacy and trust

A number of notable themes emerged across the conference, such as promising developments in smart buildings, for example, as well as the linking of privacy with security, and the importance of reputation and trust.

It was the subject of trust that was addressed by the Keynote speaker, Matthew Evans, executive director of TechUK. His talk was titled Trust principles for an IoT world and it covered how TechUK hopes to address issues about the security and use of data, to best deliver the potential of the IoT.
