Global top-3 memory vendors to see sales hit bottom in 2Q19, says Digitimes Research

The world's top-3 memory chip vendors are expected to see their sales for the second quarter of 2019 hit the year's lowest quarterly levels after experiencing remarkable sequential revenue declines in the first quarter, along with customers likely to deplete their inventories in late second quarter, according to Digitimes Research.

Of the three, SK Hynix saw its revenues for the first quarter suffer the highest sequential fall of 34%, higher than a corresponding drop of 26% for Samsung Electronics and 27% for Micron Technology. And their combined revenues for the quarter plunged 28% on quarter and 31% on year.

In the first quarter of 2019, the average selling prices (ASP) for both DRAM and NAND flash recorded the largest declines since the first quarter of 2018. Both Samsung and Micron saw their first-quarter 2019 NAND flash shipments surge sequentially, but SK Hynix's DRAM and NAND flash shipments for the quarter both declined on quarter. This resulted in SK Hynix posting higher sequential revenue fall than the two peers.
