The Advantages of Using HW Stacks in Your Design
Dr. Calliope-Louisa Sotiropoulou - Sales Engineer - CAST, Inc.
Biography :
SoC developers increasingly need to build connectivity into products and devices, so the choice of communications protocol and its implementation are critical factors. The internet protocol suite is heavily used not only for devices connected to the Internet but also for industrial automation and in-vehicle networks, as well as for many other applications. Implementing the TCP/UDP/IP protocols in hardware can offload the system's CPU while saving power and enabling higher data rates with lower latency. All-hardware stacks or offloading engines are available in the form of IP cores, but they vary in efficiency, performance, and integration/use complexity. Here we discuss the key points to look for in selecting hardware stack IP cores, and we illustrate by using examples from CASTs product line. |
