Arm invests in edge vision startup

Arm has invested in the $7 million Series A funding round of eYs3D Microelectronics, which spun off from Etron Technology of Taiwan in 2016.

www.electronicsweekly.com, May. 25, 2021 –

Etron was founded in 1991 by Nicky Lu to pursue DRAM technology. EYs3D was set up to develop processors for vision at the edge.

Apart from Arm, WI Harper the VC group and the distributor Marubun invested in the Series A.

The funding will allow eYs3D to grow its new product development for AI-based autonomous operation, including robotics, security, touchless control, autonomous vehicles and smart retail and to build out its embedded chip business in additional markets.

Arm will work with eYs3D to focus on the integration of its chips with ARM's CPU/NPU processors.

eYs3D claims to have a unique silicon design approach with algorithms to integrate and manage information from differing sensor sources including thermal, active 3D sensing and neural network perception.
