CEA-Leti Appoints New CEO

A CEO seat rarely stays vacant for long. After roughly four years at the head of CEA-Leti, Emmanuel Sabonnadière has joined Soitec as vice president of the silicon carbide (SiC) program. Sébastien Dauvé now holds the position of CEO of the French research institute.

At last week's Leti Innovation Days, during what was probably his last public speech as CEO of Leti, Sabonnadière hammered that "hardware is back". He said, "CEA-Leti is moving forward quickly in multiple strategic directions but our two basic battles remain constant: no limit for silicon integration and resolving the data deluge craziness."

CEA-Leti's key research areas include edge AI, quantum computing on silicon, healthcare (e.g. artificial intelligence to automate safe insulin delivery for patients with Type 1 diabetes), green electronics, and vehicle electrification. "Electrical vehicles will be the next interesting challenge for hardware," he said. "This fast growing sector is helping to resolve the green equation for the planet. CEA-Leti is proud to be part of this quest with GaN and silicon carbide, we are pushing the boundaries of performance to allow an even better efficiency of batteries, and electrical motor systems. Our strong results with ST and Soitec demonstrate this success."
