Spain Approves €12.25b Semiconductor Investment Plan

The Spanish Government has approved the €12.25 billion investment plan to bolster its semiconductor industry.
The Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of Microelectronics and Semiconductors, known as PERTE Chip, has been revised upwards from the original €11 billion to €12.25 billion until 2027.
In an official statement on La Moncloa website, the first vice-president of the Government of Spain and minister for the Economy and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, indicated that "it is probably the most ambitious project of the recovery plan" because of its size, its transformative impact on industry and its contribution to the technological autonomy of Spain and the European Union.
The main objective of the PERTE Chip investment plan is to expand the design and production capabilities of the Spanish microelectronics and semiconductor industry, covering the entire value chain from design to chip manufacturing, and to generate a multiplier effect, not only in the technology sectors, but also for the industry and the economy as a whole.
