Sustainable supply chain: training for Leonardo's suppliers

The new training project "Green & Sustainable Supply Chain" is now underway, involving an initial group of 50 companies selected from among Leonardo's suppliers. The aim is to support them on their path towards sustainability, in line with Leonardo's supply chain decarbonisation targets.

The project is an integrated part of the supplier education programme in Leonardo's Sustainability Plan, which aims to accelerate supply chain sustainability by involving more than 500 key suppliers by 2027.

“Green & Sustainable Supply Chain” helps suppliers develop the skills and tools needed to calculate and report CO₂ emissions and key sustainability KPIs, as a first step towards defining a decarbonisation plan.

The 72-hour training programme is funded by the Italian Interprofessional Fund FondImpresa and is divided into two modules:

• Module 1: “Why and how to measure GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions” (32 hours), focused on the calculation and reporting of CO₂ emissions and key sustainability KPIs.
• Module 2: “How to set a Science-Based target and the levers to decarbonise” (40 hours), aimed at developing a decarbonisation plan aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) guidelines for limiting global warming.

Based on their current level of maturity, suppliers can choose the path best suited to their needs: either follow the full programme (Modules 1 and 2) if they have not yet started reporting GHG emissions, or go directly to Module 2 to focus on their decarbonisation plan.

The courses offer an integrated approach combining theory and practical implementation: the theoretical, cross-company component will be delivered via videoconference, while the hands-on coaching sessions will take place in person at company premises, in small participant groups, to produce expected deliverables by applying the skills gained during the theory phase.

This training initiative contributes directly to Leonardo’s supply chain decarbonisation goal: by 2028, 58% of suppliers – measured in terms of emissions – will be required to set science-based decarbonisation targets.
