Intel fails to match TI's 25 year record as No.1

Intel has lost the opportunity to match TI's record of 25 successive years as the No.1 semiconductor company, says The Nikkei Asian Review.

Samsung's 'msemiconductor sales between January and September stood at $49.2 billion, up 46% from the year-earlier period. Intel's sales for the period increased 6%, to $45.7 billion.

TI reigned supreme between 1959 and 1984. It's a record which may never be beaten unless Samusung's founder is correct in his prediction that, once Samsung becomes No.1, it will hold that slot for 100 years.

Intel became No.1 in 1993 in succession to NEC.
