Full steam ahead for TSMC despite coronavirus

TSMC has has no plans to revise its Q1 sales guidance as a result of the coronavirus, reports Digitimes.

This is despite a 12% expected Q1 fall in smartphone production and TSMC currently deriving 53% of its revenue from chips fro smartphones.

Digitimes reports that none of TSMC's major clients, including Huawei's chip subsidiary HiSilicon, are cutting orders in the face of the epidemic.

TSMC's China fabs in Nanjing and Shanghai have been able to maintain smooth 24 hour-a-day operation during the Chinese New Year holiday and non-manufacturing employees have returned to work.

TSMC said that it was complying with epidemic regulations set by the China government.

TSMC says its capacity is tight. In Q2 it starts producing chips for Apple on its 5nm process.
